In June, we partnered with Dr. Amie Thurber and local neighborhood organizations to launch The Neighborhood Story Project in West Michigan!

The Neighborhood Story Project was created by Dr. Thurber to help neighborhoods learn their past to shape their future. This initiative has demonstrated success in Tennessee and Oregon in helping residents become more connected to each other and to their community.

This process kicked off with a two-day facilitator training attended by neighborhood leaders from Westcore (Holland, MI), the SOAR neighborhood (Holland, MI), the 40s (Holland, MI), and Godfrey Lee (Wyoming, MI). These leaders spent time connecting, learning the process, and even exploring the dominant narratives of their own community. Over the next year, these leaders will each facilitate a Neighborhood Story Project in their own neighborhood to learn their past in order to shape their future.

Special thanks to Jonna and Rolunda in the 40s for their hard work and passion to see this initiative in West Michigan.
