The Danville Regional Foundation (DRF) works to encourage revitalization and renewal in the Dan River Region. The foundation makes long-term investments to improve economic vitality, financial stability, community wellness, education, and civic capacity for citizens throughout the City of Danville, VA, Pittsylvania County, VA, and Caswell County, NC.
To build civic capacity a network of Community Councils has been cultivated. These Councils are groups of neighbors in specific communities that want to make sure all the best things about the place they call home are cared for and built up.
Each council meets four times a year, sharing a meal together, and talking about what’s most important in their community and what needs to be done to make it better. As ideas come to fruition, there are funds that they can award directly to groups that share their vision and can also recommend larger grants for consideration to DRF.
CommunityWorks–along with several key partners, including 3Sixty, Heights of Hope, and the City of Holland–had the opportunity in May to host a delegation of a dozen Community Council members and DRF staff. The visiting team got to know Holland’s unique approach to implementing Asset Based Community Develop-ment through Neighborhood Connectors.
Among other things, our guests got to experience our beautiful City Hall, historic downtown Holland, the Eastcore mural walking tour, and the Heights of Hope and WOW neighborhoods. CommunityWorks is very pleased to reciprocate this August with a visit to the Dan River Region!
