This fall, we launched the inaugural Discover the Gifts City Cohort!

Over the next six months,  local government leaders in five communities across the U.S. will be trained in  how to introduce residents to a new way to strengthen their community. Through learning the foundational principles of Asset Based Community Development, these leaders will support residents as they discover and map the gifts in their neighborhood.

Our inaugural cohort members include:

  • Arlington County, Virginia
  • Excelsior Springs, Missouri
  • Lewisville, Texas
  • Phoenix, Arizona
  • Richland County, South Carolina

The Role of Local Government in ABCD

Local Government plays a key role in supporting and sustaining neighborhood-level initiatives. Through their work, neighborhood planners, community engagement liaisions, and Community Development specialists have a unique opportunity to advocate for place-based work while building trust within neighborhoods and hyperlocal settings.

Within the Discover the Gifts Cohort, these leaders will receive individual and group coaching, access to resources, and a peer network to explore how they can uniquely advocate for ABCD and activate residents.

By the end of the cohort, each leader will have worked with a neighborhood to introduce the six gifts and help residents begin to map the gifts of their community.
